Lion
LION is an Ethiopian-Australian electropop artist, singer, songwriter, producer, and dancer based in Naarm (Melbourne), Australia. Their music fuses pulsing electronic rhythms, razor-sharp rap, and elements of heavy rock, delivering powerful lyricism that confronts microaggressions, racial identity, and self-reclamation. Drawing comparisons to artists such as Bree Runway and Charli XCX, LION’s heavy beats and distorted synths roar with unapologetic intensity.
Since signing to Tomboi Records in 2021—an independent label dedicated to amplifying marginalised voices—LION’s artistry and advocacy have continued to reach new heights. Their debut EP RECLAMATION was met with critical acclaim, amassing over 200,000 streams, securing placements on Spotify and Apple Music editorial playlists, and charting at #35 on the Australian iTunes Dance Albums Chart.
An ARIA-charting songwriter, LION reached #4 on the ARIA Australian Albums Chart as a co-writer on Greg Gould’s Strings Attached. Renowned for their live performances, LION has appeared across major stages and festivals, including Sydney WorldPride, headlining Naarm’s largest LGBTQIA+ event, Midsumma Carnival, and most recently performing on the main stage at Mardi Gras Fair Day.
